Why Do People Commit Suicide

Why do people attempt suicide? People usually attempt suicide to block unbearable emotional pain, which is caused by a wide variety of problems. It is often a cry for help. A person attempting suicide is often so distressed that they are unable to see that they have other options. Suicidal people often feel terribly isolated because of their distress, they may not think of anyone they can turn to, furthering this isolation. In the vast majority of cases a suicide at tempter would choose differently if they were not in great distress and were able to evaluate their options objectively. Most suicidal people give warning signs in hope that they will be rescued because they are intent on stopping their emotional pain, not dying.

Different people for different reasons. Mentally ill people commit suicide because they are not in control of their lives. These people are probably on medication and therefore are not in the correct state of mind and do not think properly. People who have terminal illness also commit suicide because they cannot cope with their illness and they feel they want to control their own death or maybe they just cannot cope with the pain and suffering.

Alcohol and drug abuse is also major suicidal factors. Suicide is 80 times more likely for alcoholics especially males. When drugs and alcohol are not available people feel they cannot live without them and therefore they see suicide as their only option. Drugs and alcohol may also be the cause of suicide as they effect the mind and therefore the person under the influence of alcohol or drugs may not be thinking properly and feel they cannot cope with certain issues of their life. The fastest rate of suicide is growing amongst youngsters mainly because of bullying, exam pressure, pier pressure, pressures from the opposite sex and family issues. Young people are not use to dealing with pressure and therefore when they have some pressure many cannot cope with it and see the only way to deal with it is to get rid of it by committing suicide.

They feel that ending there is much easier then solving problems. People with lack if financial security also attempt suicide because they feel they do not have what everyone else has and the pressures build up. People in serious debt also commit suicide because they see no way of getting rid of their debt and see no way out. People commit suicide at different times of the year. Many people tend to commit suicide at Christmas. People feel more lonely at times like this if they are not in contact with loved ones they feel they have ‘nothing to live for’ and therefore end their life.

Three times more men commit suicide then women. This is because they are seen to be the ‘bread winner’ and if they aren’t they feel ashamed that they are not providing for the family and then end their life.
