By adopting the policies of the EU, individuals and business entities of the postulant nations will also be able to enjoy the benefits offered under the European Network Policy. The Policy seeks to improve transport infrastructures, boosting trading competitiveness. A successful example of such support is Ireland, whose road networks were dramatically improved under the terms of the policy. The area now receives unprecedented attention from companies wishing to invest in it’s thriving economy i.
e. Hewlett Packard. One acceding nation already receiving support from the EU is Poland. The European Investment Bank is lending EUR 200 million to the Polish state-owned airports authority, Przedsiebiortwo Party Lotnicze to help pay for a new passenger terminal at Warsaw International Airport. The new terminal will double the existing capacity and deal with expected growth up until 2010. With the acceding nations placed on the eastern peripheries of the union, such investment to link them with their western counterparts will be welcomed as a method of extending trading links.
It is anticipated that further infrastructure regeneration will be needed to establish effective trading links between the eastern and western peripheries. In conclusion it appears that accession into the European Union will eventually prove profitable to the stability and trading effectiveness of the 10 acceding nations. However, the process of transformation will be lengthy with many casualties, such as organisations unable to cope with the demands of the market economy. For the individuals of these states the benefits bestowed by policies such as the Social Charter and the eradication of employment boundaries can only serve to promote living standards in these depressed regions.
